At Rocket City Consignment, we have the privilege of seeing the "cycle" of an item. It is so fun to see a consignor drop off their items, ready for them to just be gone from the house. They are feeling good about all the cleaning and purging they have done, and are ready to make a buck. Then on the flip side, we get to see a customer come through the checkout with that same item and exclaim in excitement over their "find". Whether it be a hidden gem, a missing piece to an outfit, or just a major blessing to be able to shop so cheaply - shoppers definitely leave the store happy, and that is what it is all about.
But as with any business, we are often presented with needs. We hear stories of struggle from every group we serve. We have given very loosely through different avenues in the past, but were ready to enter 2016 with a Plan. Just as I encourage you all to get on a "Purging Plan", I too had to get on a plan - a plan to be able to facilitate your purges.
I have always had a place for United Way in my heart, ever since I served as a Loaned Executive for them in 2005 through my career at Publix. I deeply believe in their foundation, structure, and ability to reach those in need. Community Impact Director of Madison County, Cathy Miller, recently contacted me and asked if our consignors would like to connect with a way to give. A quick "yes!" was followed up by a pressing thought that I have had for quite some time for our consignors. In the past, any donation receipt that was obtained from our giving was credited to Rocket City Consignment. I was acting as an "umbrella" for all the gifts and donations from our consignors, when in fact I never really did much to "earn" that privilege. With that in mind, RCC and United Way were able to secure an agreement to offer our individual consignors a donation receipt for each individual giver - or consignor. This is a huge blessing to be able to give to those in need, to trust United Way's recipients with these gifts, and to offer a tax-deductible receipt to the true giver - our consignors.
So when you sign up for Consignment Membership, and get on your own "Purging Plan" - you can come to RCC for all your needs. Donating, being one of them. We are happy to offer the service of liaison in 2016, and to connect those with a need to those who have it to give.
